Coin Jar

Make your spare change count.

Coin Jar, a new feature from LGE Community Credit Union, allows you to round up debit card purchases to the nearest dollar and donate the difference to the LGE Community Outreach Foundation.

In a Nutshell

  • Enroll in Coin Jar (you can opt-out at any time) easily.

  • Set limits on transfers by minimum balance and/or maximum monthly donation limit.

  • Make purchases using your LGE debit card.

  • Donate to a great cause.

All The Details

Donate as you spend! Use your LGE Community Credit Union Debit Card to make everyday purchases - lunch, gas, coffee, groceries, etc. - and the change on the transaction will be rounded up to the nearest whole dollar. The difference will automatically transfer from your checking account to the LGE Community Outreach Foundation* at the end of each business day! That means if you buy something for $54.73, you deduct $55.00 from your available balance and we automatically transfer the extra 27¢ (difference) for you to the Foundation. Every dollar raised by the Foundation is generously matched (up to an annual maximum) by LGE Community Credit Union. Therefore, your donations can go twice as far!

HOW TO DONATE**:
  • A one-time donation, or
  • Have “continuous” donations set from your purchases.
HOW IT WORKS:
  • Sign up by completing the Coin Jar Round Up Form, or enroll using LGE’s Online Banking.
  • Once enrolled, each Debit Card purchase(s) associated with your checking account will be rounded up to the next whole dollar.
  • Each day a purchase(s) posts to your account, your round-ups will be identified and debited from your account at the end of the day.
  • LGE will not round up purchases posted on that business day and will cancel the daily round-up transfer for that day in the event the following occurs:
    • If you do not have sufficient available funds in your checking account, or
    • The amount of the daily transfer is not available (i.e. on hold), or
    • The purchase transaction falls below pre-set minimum balance, or
    • The monthly donation cap amount has been reached, or
    • If any transaction has overdrawn your checking account.
  • If you have a Debit Card purchase that is subsequently cancelled or reversed, such as a returned purchase, the corresponding daily round-up transfer will remain in the Foundation account. Credit Card transactions and Debit Card adjustment transactions do not qualify and will not be rounded-up.
HOW PURCHASES WILL APPEAR ON YOUR STATEMENT:

Purchases will appear as usual. Round-up transactions will appear separately at the end of each day with a reference to the originating purchase(s).  It is important that you develop your own method for recording these transactions in your checkbook. This will help you keep your checkbook balanced, and help you avoid overdrawing your account.

HOW TO ENROLL:
  • Log in to Online Banking and choose the Coin Jar widget from the More menu.
  • Visit any LGE branch.
  • Call us at 770-424-0060 to enroll by phone.

Debit Card Round Up transfers are eligible for Debit Card purchases only. Both PIN and Signature-based transactions will be included in this program. Once enrolled in the “continuous” donation option, transfers will begin to post on the next business day. Purchases made on weekends or holidays will post on the next business day. The “continuous” Debit Card Round Up transfer remains in effect until you opt out of the program. This program is excluded from other LGE checking account programs and will function independently. Not available on Business Accounts or Health Savings Accounts. Additional account types may not be eligible.
